Puzzle 25.  DOUBLET

DOUBLET is a word game invented by Lewis Carroll.  The object of the game is to change a word into another word by successively changing only one letter at the time to form a intermediate valid word. For example, the following process changes the word CON to MOB:

Lewis Carroll, a mathematician and inventor of the word game, Doublet, once worked all night trying to make an anagram from the name William Ewart Gladstone.  Finally, he produced the anagram: 

"Wild agitator, means well."
