Are there certain future events that are
impossible to be predicted correctly? Let's say you wrote on a piece of
paper "YES" and another piece of paper "NO". Then you ask two groundhogs
whether if it is going to rain tomorrow. One groundhog picked the paper
labeled "YES", and another groundhog picked the paper labeled "NO".
Obviously, this kind of weather prediction is something which is not impossible
to predict correctly, since one of the groundhog would always be right.
But below is a counter example.
During the age of the warring empires,
the King of the Knights wanted to settle with the King of the Barbarians on who
will have possession of the Southern Lands without going into war. During their meeting, the King
of the Knights made a challenge to the Barbarian King. Here is the
challenge:
The King of the Knights would secretly wrote something on a tablet. On the tablet is
written something that may or may not happen within three days period.
What was written would not be revealed to anyone, including the King of the
Barbarians. The King of the Barbarians would also secretly write
"YES" or "NO" on another tablet whether what the King of the Knights have
written would come true within three days period. What was written would
also not be revealed to anyone, including the King of the Knights. Both
tablet would be sealed chest, and would be opened only after the third day.
If the King of Barbiarians "YES" or "NO"
answer with regards to the prediction of the King of the Knights, then he can have possession of
the Southern Lands, otherwise the Southern Lands would belong to the King of the
Knights. The King of the Barbarians agreed to this challenge since his
perceived that his chance of winning is 50% chance, regardless of what the King
of the Barbarians would write. It also appeared to be a deal for him since in the battle field, his chance of
victory is only 30%.
The King of the Knights was 100% sure
that the King of the Barbarians would be wrong. Why?
After three days, the chest was openned
and what were written on the tablets were revealed to everyone present. The prediction of the King of the Barbarians was wrong, and the
King of the Knights gain possession of the Southern Lands.
